We nuked a country twice partly due to war fatigue.
Sheer speculation on my part, but I believe that Truman would have been impeached had the atomic bombs had not been deployed at the end of WWII.
My father was an 18YO sailor training for the land invasion of Japan in 1945. I was born in 1954, and I heard plenty of stories about the sacrifices the US endured to bring victory.
However, I could never draw any utterances from my mom regarding the internment of Japanese Americans. She lived near Portland, and went to school with a number of Japanese American kids. She had just turned 14 when Pearl Harbor occurred. The threat of the Japanese invading the West Coast was very real.
One of my mom's cousins called his mother from the SF naval base before leaving before parts unknown in the Pacific. She would not hear from him for over 3 years: no postcards, no letters, no phone calls, etc.
Was that the global war of 60 million deaths and the 100s of millions maimed, wounded and homes and towns destroyed and so on war fatigue?
