I am sure if those who resent this destruction were to approach those companies consuming the books, and offer to pay for packing and shipping of the processed books to their own facilities that an arrangement could be made. As it is, maintaining the paper books is an unnecessary cost to the AI companies.

No, the problem here is per the judge the books must be destroyed, a legal glitch so to speak. The AI companies are not allowed to keep the books after they have digitized them.

This makes the destruction unnecessary and that to me is ignorant for a couple of reasons.
1. A book should not be destroyed so off handedly (more personal thing to me)
2. A book can’t be changed, a digitized version can be, thus it can be corrupted with intent.
