There has been plenty of discussion surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs' decision with their new, upcoming stadium. Scheduled to open in 2031, "New Chiefs Stadium" will be located in Kansas City, Kansas instead of Kansas City, Missouri. That in itself has been controversial.
There's also the question of whether there's actually a need for a brand new stadium. Arrowhead Stadium has been renovated and even expanded several times over the past 35 years. And it just played a major role during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where it was considered one of the best venues for the tournament.
Regardless, it's all moving along, and quite quickly. On Wednesday, the first renderings of the upcoming stadium were released. Unsurprisingly, it looks fantastic. At this point, it would be a shock if any new stadium didn't look extremely high-end. But there's one thing about this one that isn't sitting right with some fans.
In the eyes of many, the stadium simply looks too similar to every other new stadium that has been built over the past few years. In fact, one user noted that SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles "is having a lot of influence on these new stadiums". Fans wanted to see something different, although it seems like the Chiefs don't want to take many risks with the design.

Haven’t cared about any of this since Colon Krapernik took a knee.
The soccer field was a mess at Arrowhead. Crabgrass or something infested it.
A roof. That’s the issue. Can’t have a Super Bowl or championship game affected by the weather. Too much money involved. Nothing the taxpayers won’t take care of.
It would have been clever for it to be actually shaped like an arrowhead.
I hear Chiefs fans will have a great bonus at both stadiums, a permanent Taylor Swift cam and big screen display so they can watch her every reaction, just like fans from from other teams have to suffer through
Trav won’t ever play in the new stadium.
Doesn’t matter cost of inflicting her on the rest of the NFL is a 10 year purgatory for Chiefs fans
