Watching soccer is like watching a chess match with live pieces who occasionally fake injuries.
To be fair, though, ice hockey is the ‘other’ sport of northern Europe, and basketball is becoming the ‘other’ sport of southern Europe—and enough people worldwide (outside the Commonwealth) are fascinated by baseball. We can tip our hat to soccer every once in a while, knowing that other sports are taking the hearts of other countries.

Don’t think football will ever be popular in other countries, though. Europeans who want to see a bit of rough stuff already have rugby.
