The country roads of America brought the world across our land, as our role hosting the World Cup fittingly coincided with America 250. The sprawling event on a grand stage reminded the world—and us—about important realities of our nation at its quarter-millennial birthday.
Now, like most Americans, I hugely prefer our football—which starts soon. We are just culturally biased toward a game that is far higher scoring, much more violent, and far more of a spectacle. We opt for the sports version of opera, with heightened, dangerous drama, rather than the grind and nuance of soccer. ---SNIP--- But the World Cup experience made clear that much, if not most, of America’s image problem abroad flows from myths. Smears of the U.S. flow nonstop from legacy media platforms, especially the most powerful ones in the rest of the Western world. Unfortunately, the whole world lags badly behind America in developing alternative new media. Consequently, those legacy outlets in places like England and Brazil still shape public opinion very effectively.

Keep something mind. All those people that came here probably had to spend at least $30,000 to come here, so they tended to be the more well-off, and thus more US-friendly.
The folks staying back home were continued to be fed the usual US-bashing from their media.

The packaging those thugs have been doing is awful.
Watching soccer is like watching a chess match with live pieces who occasionally fake injuries.
To be fair, though, ice hockey is the ‘other’ sport of northern Europe, and basketball is becoming the ‘other’ sport of southern Europe—and enough people worldwide (outside the Commonwealth) are fascinated by baseball. We can tip our hat to soccer every once in a while, knowing that other sports are taking the hearts of other countries.

Just remember, Soccer is the sport of the future in America, and always will be, unless we import too many illegals.
Ice hockey has the same premise as hockey but is so much more fast and exciting. Plus, in North America, the players are permitted to drop the gloves and fight, unlike in Europe where they can’t fight, and resort to carving each other up with the sticks.

It isn’t really; multiplying one touchdown by 7 doesn’t make it higher scoring. Soccer is scored like hockey.
