How sad that this many Republicans and Conservatives responded this way.
Once socialism is voted in, the only possible outcomes are to shoot your way out, or to sink into deep poverty and endless misery. Even the elites, under that system, do not live all that well. They are utterly dependent on a large coterie of armed and ruthless Praetorian guards, any of which may choose a little self-advancement by holding the inner circle hostage or even by “liquidation”.
No honor and no accountability.
Corporate Statism. Privatize the profits. Socialize the human costs of production. Even Trump sees the economy in terms of sovereign wealth and power on the world stage. Government stakes in business and all of that.
Then consider AI and how it might rewrite the implied contract between capitalism and jobs. Socialism may be inevitable. If so, would Republicans and Conservatives be better served to get ahead of them curve and start to shape future policy rather than have the DSA dictate terms?
The question is too general.
Own or control is such big range, and if you include sectors such as high tech, or energy, of course I would want the government to have some level of control for national security purposes. Such as telling high tech firms they cannot sell the top of the line chips to China, for example.
Does not make me a socialist because I answered yes to that question? I would say the person wrote a real bad question, so bad that it’s impossible to tell from the answer what the respondents’ actually opinions are on government intrusions into the private sector.
