The fundamental issue (if there is any kernel of truth in this suspect poll) is that there may be (and probably are) people either intentionally or unintentionally defining them as conservatives...when they simply are not.
If one believes that government should control of some function or industry that is not explicitly delineated in the Constitution, you cannot be a conservative.
It really is that simple, IMO.
Unfortunately there are many self proclaimed conservatives that want to conserve leftist victories.

Yeah, that is true. I also know a lot of self-described liberals who are more conservative than some conservatives here!
This applies to a lot of Alabama’s black perennial democrats. Very religious and rural, but all voted for Kamala, Joe, Barrack, Kerry, Gore, Slick Willie, Dukaka, Mondale, Jimmy, etc...
