It was catch 22 all the way. I tried to reformat and restore but that process alone took several gigs of space.

Long story short, I bought a new computer. My wife is a watercolorist and wants my MS crippled computer for her studio. I plan to install a new hard drive and install Linux.

But the new computer is fine.
