how many websites I’ve seen that are now completely unusable because it was felt necessary to “upgrade” over the years.

My bank does this. It is working fine; I can get where I want to go and do what I need to do.
Then - Lo and Behold - things change.
It was too ‘plain’. It now flashes with images and I have to hunt up the login prompt. All while taking longer to load those new improved pages.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
