House Republicans are investigating reports that American Federation of Teachers union dues were used to help produce, promote, and publish union President Randi Weingarten's book, which publisher Penguin Random House called "a manifesto for our time."
Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich., chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and Rep. Rick Allen, R-Ga., chair of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions, wrote a letter Tuesday to Weingarten.
They cited reports that the "AFT expended substantial funds on consultants, legal services, publication-related expenses, fact-checking services, photography, and other activities connected" to her book Why Fascists Fear Teachers: Public Education and the Future of Democracy, which was released in September 2025.

Randi Weingarten is a disgusting person. But no union member ever voted for her as president of the AFT. State and national AFT leaders are chosen at conventions by hand-picked slates of delegates.
And good luck trying to break the slate.
Ain’t gonna happen.
For an organization that talks about the wonders of democracy, the AFT is one of the least democratic organizations around.
Teachers who are most interested in their students getting a good education are not usually the ones who are very active in Union activities.
Throw her union ying yang in prison where she belongs.
The problem is union dues?
BTW, is there any Republican establishment, such as the democrats’ labor unions, which demand dues from all members?
I mean, if republicans ran the unions and demanded dues from democrats the way the dems do, I can say having worked in and around unions in NY and in NYC, that just would not fly
The problem is really more with corruption. And corrupt democrats.
“ For an organization that talks about the wonders of democracy, the AFT is one of the least democratic organizations around.”
They do lie.
Hubby is a retired firefighter so I’ve known all our union presidents quite well. And I’ve had the same argument with all of them. Why do you support Democrats with union dues just so the Democrats can raise our taxes? They’ve never had a coherent answer.
The children in schools today can barely read, can’t even do basic math, are being taught to hate America, are being groomed with inappropriate sexual information and have ZERO social skills needed to function in a civilized society.
Exactly what are our taxes paying for other than that lard ass’s bloated salary and expenses.
That’s a good question for them
Imagine if republicans operated by extracting union dues from everyone, strong arming them. One cannot opt out of union dues and still work, never mind have any ambition. They might vote Republican but they are forced to support democrats. And their book marketing as in this case
What a racket
I applied for an aircraft mechanic job, but was so intimidated by their union’s rules, I decided not to show up to take the job.
Sounds about right
Imagine republicans doing this and you’ll see the difference right there
