DOJ Warns States of Potential Criminal Penalties Over Noncitizen Voting Enforcement

The Justice Department is warning state election officials that they could face criminal penalties if they fail to carry out their responsibilities under federal election law, including measures designed to prevent noncitizens from voting in federal elections.

Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon sent letters to election officials in at least six states, including Arizona, Colorado and Nevada, reminding them of the department’s enforcement authority, according to letters obtained by ABC News.

“In addition to the Civil Rights Division’s authority to seek injunctive relief for violations of these laws, we are also authorized to prosecute criminal violations,” Dhillon wrote.

The letters state that federal law requires state and local election officials to maintain election records and take steps to ensure that only eligible U.S. citizens cast ballots in federal elections.

“Federal law mandates that state and local election officials properly maintain election records and undertake certain actions to ensure that only eligible U.S. citizens cast votes in elections for federal office,” the letters said.

The Justice Department also requested that states respond within five days outlining how they intend to comply with the applicable federal laws.

According to ABC News, one state election official who received the letter described its tone as “threatening.”

The Trump administration has made preventing noncitizen voting a priority as it seeks to strengthen federal oversight of elections ahead of the midterm elections.

Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar defended his state’s election safeguards, saying existing protections already prevent ineligible individuals from casting ballots.

“There are already numerous safeguards in place to prevent noncitizens, or anyone ineligible to vote, from casting a ballot,” Aguilar said in a statement.

Aguilar criticized the Justice Department’s request, saying, “This new request may seem straightforward, but it’s just another attempt from the Trump Administration to create doubt surrounding our elections just ahead of the midterms.”

State officials who disregard federal law should be threatened. As a South Carolinian, I will be happy to instruct the rogue state officials in FAFO.

Sounds good, when arrests start, I’ll be cheering. Until then, it just sounds good.

I seem to dimly recall that the County of Los Angeles was sued by Judicial Watch to purge their voter rolls of some 1.2 MILLION invalid registrants and won that lawsuit. Hence, there was a court order for the County to purge said voter rolls to which the County Registrar has neither complied nor replied.

Start there Harmeet.

Harmeet Dhillon? Pulleese! she was in charge of checking out the election integrity for the repubs in 2020, too.

what about “strong letters” to election officials in Cali, Georgia; Michigan, & Pennsylvannia

PS: add Virginia & NC

If any illegal voter in any State is allowed to vote the Governor should be locked up.

Why do conservative publications ALWAYS end articles with liberal talking points?

I’d love to see this started in California - with arrests.

But, they still have mail-in voting to use for mass fraud - right, SCOTUS?

“The U.S. Supreme Court upheld state laws allowing mail-in ballots to be counted if received after Election Day, provided they are postmarked by the deadline.”

They’ll just postmark the “late arriving ballots” that they’ve created to show “election day.”

Deportation should come first for non-Americans who think it’s cool to vote in Gringo’s elections. “Today we vote, tomorrow we get our tacos catapulted back across the Grand River”.

Ooh, ooh; more severe memos incoming! Next step is getting the UN to make a speech.

How about public flogging for such, dammit?

“There are already numerous safeguards in place to prevent noncitizens, or anyone ineligible to vote, from casting a ballot,” Aguilar said in a statement.”

The safeguards are not working given the evidence of illegals voting in many elections.
