I think a huge problem would be that plastic waste is often in the form dirty bottles, boxes, bags that contain leftover food or other substances. Also, plastic parts are often interwoven into items made mostly of metal. Plastic sleeve bearings are an example — widely used because they require no lubrication.
One more thing about the problem with recycling plastics. They usually contain pigments to give them color and opacity.
