The Democrats in Massachusetts kept re-electing Teddy Kennedy as long as he lived after he caused the death of Mary Jo Kopechne by driving off a bridge (probably driving drunk which is why he waited for hours to report the accident). But he got a two-month suspended sentence for doing that.
I (unfortunately) lived in Massachusetts in the mid 70’s and worked with a woman that told me that Massachusetts would always vote for a Kennedy no matter what they had done. That is the mind set there.
