Fights have broken out across France as hundreds of shoppers scramble for air conditioning units before soaring temperatures next week.
Footage showed Parisians scuffling over the coveted equipment in a Lidl supermarket after 400 people queued all night to get their hands on a unit on Thursday.
The clashes came after temperatures reached 44C (111ºF) in parts of France last week, with sweltering heat set to return on Monday.
One customer reportedly injured eight people, including a 12-year-old, with pepper spray in an attempt to get his hands on an air-conditioning (AC) unit.
Seems like Europe's experiment with no air conditioning is working out great! Thankfully, though it isn't expected to be fall-ish anytime soon, it does look like the weather in Paris won't be as mind-meltingly hot over the coming week

Certainly more worth fighting for than Running Back Dolls or whatever those damn things were.
Are these window units or in-room? Do they have central ac units?
I just put a new window unit my my barn office. Run it at 68F, on high. Very chill.
Odd thing is its R32. Dichlorofluoromethane. Its a flammable gas.
Now how is that better than freon?
Didn’t go to the link huh? SMH
I see the fighters there are of the same persuasion as ours here.
Hey Yogi, is it them there too?
“Difluoromethane“ R32
Yup, it’s big black Afros fighting off little French ladies.
“Ask Jane Goodall, Boo-boo. I forgot my binokalarzes!”
This isn’t the first heat wave France has experienced in recent years.....you’d think people woulda learned their lesson.
I’ve had a 13,000 btu stand in the corner unit for hurricane season for at least 5 years.
Never needed it yet but it’ll be there if I do.
And I damned sure didn’t pay $1,300 bucks for it either.
It’s better because when you are connected, skids get greased. When DuPont’s Freon patent expired, they lobbied to outlaw it as dangerous, and suggested the substitute be their brand new improved, eco friendly, patented alternative. Bidet was famously the senator for DuPont in Delaware.
It makes the liberals happy. They don't care if your house burns down.
Yes, it did look like mostly a 3rd world hellhole in there.
I am not saying we would be any different in some situation like...no food.
The difference is, these are air conditioners, and the country is deliberately making them hard to get. Ours hasn’t done that.
Yet.
“Now how is that better than freon?”
Short answer, it isn’t better than freon.
I wouldn’t worry about the R32 as it’s really, really, rare to have leaks in sealed systems (systems without hose connections). You’re more likely to win the lottery.
As to performance, I know that a mix of propane and butane is a drop-in replacement for R12 and performs just as good. I don’t know for sure for your refrigerant, but I suspect it performs fine.
Have you seen that some appliances like mini-fridges or ice makers use R-600a? That is butane.
Looks more like a Wal Mart Black Friday Sale.....
Same as the majority of people who only have a couple days worth of food in the house.
Same as people running to get a generator a day before a category 4 is supposed to hit.
Sock Ray Blue
“Wal Mart Black Friday Sale”
You mean Wal Mart Black EYE Friday Sale. 😂
