President Donald Trump has been warning recently that communism will pose a threat to the U.S. if Democrats win in the upcoming midterm elections.
Last week, he referred to Democrats as “hard core, godless Communists”.
But experts say his claims, echoed by Vice President J.D. Vance and other Republican leaders, are off base.
Here’s a closer look at the facts.
THE FACTS: No candidate openly belonging to the U.S. Communist Party has ever been elected to state or federal office, according to experts. Although there are fringes of the Democratic Party that have expressed support for communist ideas, experts say that they still advocate for a market-based economy and that it is inaccurate to paint the entire party with such a broad brush. Trump recently began referring to Democrats pejoratively as “Dumocrats.”
“The reality is that none of these major political figures in the Democratic Party, even those further out on the left, are identifying as communists,” said Marc Selverstone, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center for Public Affairs, adding that it’s an opportunity to portray Democrats as marginal figures.

Experts, huh? What are these geniuses experts in or of?
Sez the commie AP. Bwaahahaha.
The only difference between the ‘Democratic Socialists’ and the Communists is that the ‘Democratic Socialists’ still PRETEND that you get to vote for who rules over you.

Makes me wonder what expert communists would say? Same, same.
Of course the “experts” are never identified. Who are they? What is their profession? What party do they belong to? What are their spiritual beliefs (if any)?

I asked Brave’s Leo, and here’s the answer:
Yes, several Democratic politicians simultaneously held membership in the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) or were closely affiliated with the party while holding office, often keeping their affiliation secret.
Hugh De Lacy: A Washington politician who served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1945–1947) and on the Seattle City Council as a Democrat; he was a Communist Party member but did not disclose his party connections.
William J. Pennock: Served in the Washington State House of Representatives (1939–1947) as a Democrat; he was identified as a Party member, though not openly so.
Kathryn Fogg and Ellsworth C. Wills: Both served in the Washington State House of Representatives as Democrats during the same era and were identified as Party members.
H. C. Armstrong: A Washington State Representative (1937–1949) who was a Democrat and a Party member.
Three Democratic congressmen: Historical records note that three Democratic members of the U.S. House were secretly CPUSA members during the 1930s and 1940s, with Hugh De Lacy being the most prominent confirmed example.
While some members like John Bernard (Minnesota) and Charles E. Taylor (Montana) held office on Farmer-Labor tickets, they were either future Communists or not openly identified as such at the time.
The CPUSA generally encouraged its members to run as Democrats or in coalition with other left-wing groups to maximize political influence and avoid electoral penalties.
