A three-year-old boy was critically injured by at least one crocodile after being tossed into a reptile pit at a British zoo by a stranger with learning difficulties – who has already been released from police custody, it was revealed today.
The 30-year-old suspect from Norfolk, who did not know the victim, was arrested at the Old Hurst animal park in Cambridgeshire on suspicion of attempted murder.
But less than 24 hours after the attack, he was released on bail until September 18 after being assessed as ‘not fit for interview’ by detectives, police said.
The attacker is believed to have been on an organised day trip to the zoo with at least two carers, according to several locals.
Witnesses said Old Hurst’s owner and zookeeper Tracey Johnson sprinted into the enclosure and pulled the injured child away from the crocodiles to safety.
She and her shell-shocked husband Andy were seen for the first time since the incident in exclusive pictures taken by Daily Mail today as police sealed off the enclosure and spoke to staff. Friends said Mr and Mrs Johnson are ‘mortified’ by what happened.
Tearful witnesses described the child suffering a broken arm and pelvis. Other parents said they heard a blood-curdling scream from the reptile area yesterday afternoon.
The boy had been on an elevated walkway watching at least 15 crocodiles and alligators when he was reportedly lifted over a 4ft safety fence and hurled about 15ft down into the enclosure.
He was then attacked by at least one crocodile, according to multiple sources. The enclosure houses more than a dozen crocodiles and alligators, including two large Nile crocodiles, Romeo and Cuddles, which measure between 9ft and 11ft. Romeo, the male, can weigh up to 485lbs.

It appears the UK cops have an obsessive-compulsive fetish for interviewing arrestees even though there is overwhelming evidence in the form of eyewitnesses to the crime. This could be a huge breakthrough for criminals in the country: just don’t let them interview you and you walk.
On the other hand, of one is seen to pray, of course no interview is necessary.
This turd should be thrown in.
They should have beat the perp to death at the scene, knowing how “British justice” would favor the inbred migrant savage.
It sounds like his caregivers were goofing off and not watching him. The police should investigate that. Not saying it’s the case with these two but a lot of these caregivers are nothing more than MacDonalds workers.
A lot of “mentally disabled” or as we said in the old days mentally retarded people can be violent at times. That is why they need to be watched when out in public. Their low IQ causes very low impulse control.
Some of them probably should not be out in public and put in an institution like in the old days. More so if the caregivers are not that intelligent or really care about their job.

At very least, that facility who brought this out of control client to the zoo should be prosecuted and fined for making a series of stupid and dangerous decisions.

I don’t care why you’re dangerous. Once you prove it, society must ensure you endanger nobody. That is what a responsible society does.
We need to reopen in the USA at least, the mental hospitals closed in the 1970s. When closed and the crazies dumped on the streets mass killings in the USA by crazies took off like a rocket.
