Entertainment Industry Insiders Say They’re Afraid Hollywood is Turning Into the Next Detroit
Gateway Pundit ^ | Jun. 16, 2026 | Mike LaChance

Advocates warn that unless the U.S. responds to foreign subsidies, Hollywood is at risk of becoming Detroit, which has bled jobs as automakers pursued low-wage labor and generous incentives in other states and abroad.

The new reboot of ‘Little House on the Prairie’ is not even filming in the United States. They’re shooting it in Canada! The original was shot in California.

Little House was filmed in Simi Valley just a few miles from my house up Tapo Canyon in the hills. We rode dirt bikes and took our 4 wheel drives there dozens of times. My friend still has the pictures from one night when it was snowing and about 10 of us were drinking in the Little House Saloon at 2AM with 5 4 wheel drives parked out front. The whole town was there.

Lots of similarities there. Detroit rested on their laurels and end up producing crappy cars. Hollywood rarely comes up with an original movie idea, and nearly everything they produce these days is crap.

AI will demolish what is left of Hollywood. The “talent” are mediocre outspoken narcissists, the content.. as you point out is rarely creative or groundbreaking, California is basically communist at this point so financially its a loser… now computers can do the work of most of the “entertainment” industry there.

Bye bye.

and the folks in LA being hurt the worst because of this exodus are not the handful of “stars”, but the very large number of craft folks, trade folks, and suppliers ... [OTOH, i wonder who this latter group of workers voted for?]

No Free Traitors™ sold out the auto industry. We needed tariffs to stop it. The USA would be much better off if that had happened.

“Lots of similarities there. Detroit rested on their laurels and end up producing crappy cars.”

Both cities are Democrat dystopias.

Democrats’ ideas and policies are stupid and corrupt and destroy the golden goose.

When will the millions of tech workers get a refund for losing their jobs to Indians we brought into this country to work at our banks, schools and hospitals?

You can fit lots of illegal aliens into some of those Hollywood homes, once you dispose of the bodies of the original occupants (who got what they voted for).

There’s a reason I stopped watching and buying DVDs of American TV! And I used to adore them, watching compulsively. Then Canadian TV held on a little longer. Forever Knight and Due South were great Canadian shows. Shows shot in Canada CAN use SOME American involvement. The problem comes in that the show contracts say how many Canadians must be involved with the production and how many non-Canadians. That limits work for Hollywood types but they’re always desperate for Canadian film people. At least they were in the 90’s.

Those are the only ones I care about and feel sorry for, the “talent” created this mess and they own it.

There is some union rule that dictates salaries so many miles from a spot in L.A. That’s why alien planets in movies nearly always have the same ‘look’. Film farther away and I think the pay goes way up. Film out of the country and then anything might be allowed.

I had a roommate in college whose family was connected to Hollywood and the film unions. He was unable to get a card in L.A. but was able to get one for NY. He made more money in one day on a commercial shoot than I did for two months on a fishing boat. At the time I was jealous. But I got a lifetime of experiences and stories during those two months on the albacore boat.

The film industry has always been global in scope, but the concentration in LA and Southern California became unusually large for some interesting historical reasons. Some of the problems of “Hollywood” were tied to the fact that the industry hub in Southern California got big enough to form an insulated bubble. But even in the U.S., New York — with its roots in the live stage — was always a secondary hub, and scattered productions elsewhere were always there.

The industry has been diversifying away from “Hollywood” for years. That trickle has now become a flood. In the long run, the industry will be healthier for being more dispersed. But this will hurt the army of people in the behind the camera skilled trades.

The real threat to the industry is streaming, which is destroying the ecosystem that supported creativity, risk taking, original IP, and great writing and acting. The streamers know that most of the couch potato audience is not paying attention anyhow.

Given that the industry is filled with America hating rabid leftists, I’m quite happy to see these scumbags put out of a job. I’m sorry for the good ones (a tiny handful of actors and possibly more of the behind the scenes folks) who will get hurt but seeing my enemies suffer will never make me anything but happy.

And yes, AI is going to absolutely devastate Hollywood. No more exorbitant actors’ salaries. No more hiring a whole crew to build sets, shoot, edit, etc. No more putting up with scandal plagued or difficult actors and actresses like Rachel Zegler, etc. AI will be cheaper, faster and will spare the creators so many headaches.
