The U.S. and the Soviets raced to scoop up German rocket scientists. Werner von Braun being the big win there, obviously. But there were dozens of others.
Those developments preceded the national socialist takeover, and they were not isolated nor endemic to Germany; a lot of them were the result of trade with the US and Britain.
