1986 special CBS News Report:"The Vanishing Black Family" [92 minute video]

The statistics about what happened over the past FIVE decades to the once stalwart and steadfast American black family, the backbone of the black community, are shocking and distressing. In an unflinching account that tries to understand why this disintegration started and why it continues, CBS News gives life to the statistics through intimate portraits of young black adults facing the emotional and financial difficulties of single parenthood. With its candor and openness, "The Vanishing Family" may very well be the most important documentary in recent memory.

Prevailing wage laws as well - contracts were being awarded to black laborers and contractors who were outbidding other companies for projects - and they used prevailing wage laws to put a stop to that.

Yes, since the LBJ days the presence of a man in the house meant a cutdown or even cutoff of the government money. Big incentive to kick the man out and keep him out.

Nowadays, if you're a woman and you have children, you can leave your husband with your children and he will have to pay for it.

And it's affecting everyone, not just the black family.

“But I’m surprised they would make a documentary on this subject.”

It aired 40 years ago. Things have gotten a lot more woke and political since then.

It didn't get really bad until Obama got elected, IMHO.

During most of the 20th Century, official and scholarly references to children born out of wedlock used the word “illegitimate.” Toward the end of that century, objections arose to the use of the word “illegitimate.” Diana Ross proposed the term “Love Child” in a song that spoke of the inter-generational transmission of poverty connected to the phenomenon. Other popular songs of the late 20th Century on this theme include Elvis Presley’s “In the Ghetto” and Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.”

Nowadays, the term “children born to unmarried women” is used in official and scholarly references to children born out of wedlock. For African Americans, being born to an unmarried woman is now the norm. About 70 percent of African American children are born to unmarried women. This is the case for about half of Hispanic American children and about 30 percent of European American children. America has become a nation of bastards.

They have family and tribal ties in Africa. But it is, and ways has been, a dysfunctional s hole where the locals haven’t even figured out how to make more than a one story mud hut.

Not vanishing, just vaporizing, along with the abortions.

Sin and its consequences are a choice given by our Creator.

The consequences are common.

This is African life. The family unit was established because of slavery. Back where Africans never experienced slavery has no concept of that way of living. It is the same way now and the default way of life to that culture. Prove me wrong? In no way am I saying slavery was right. What I am saying is, we are not compatible cultures or people. Leave the Dark Continent to themselves.

Destruction of the traditional Black family was deliberate.

Not so sure what the long term goal was supposed to be or if the actual consequences were what was originally intended.

Are you kidding? They tried to do the same thing with Latinx, only to find out they are inherently conservative. Greatest boomerang of American electoral history.

And the Marxist refusal to demand English-only in schools played an enormous role in Trump's three straight election wins -- dark money PAC ads don't mean jack-shit when la señora de la casa no habla inglés.

They are reverting to their African ways.

BS. What happened is the inevitable result of LBJs Great Society welfare programs. He destroyed the black family — intentionally to create a solid Democrat voting block. LBJ was a total evil bastard.

Then explain why African countries never touched by the slave trade are violent dysfunctional cesspools. It is well documented by Arab, English, Chinese, and Japanese explorers.

Mostly because the British and French left their former colonies in the hands of Oxford and Sorbonne trained Socialists looking to steal everything in sight, but a racist like you wouldn’t know anything about that.

Try reading some history rather than displaying your ignorance.

BTW… please tell the class what countries in Africa (or Europe or Asia) were not touched by slavery. I can’t think of even one.
