What I read was that they were educators. The murder occurred at an interscholastic track meet. Therefore, they were removed from the jury pool because of the adjacency of their jobs to the scene.
However, they may also have stated that they could not convict a black student, or could not disregard their own prejudices in arriving at a verdict.
I’m not saying you’re opinion is incorrect, but pointing out the publicized reason for them being removed from the jury pool.
A black teacher that was disqualified stated:
“This is close enough to home that I’m not confident that I could be completely fair.”
I was on jury duty not long ago, and people who answered question like that were immediately disqualified by the judge, not the attorneys. Same with the guy who said he would “have a hard time putting a brother in jail.” I guess Texas might be different, but here in Cali, you have to attest that you can be impartial, or you are disqualified by the judge.
