Nolte: Pope Leo Edges Closer to MAGA on Immigration
Breitbart ^

Posted on 06/11/2026 12:26:19 PM PDT by Tench_Coxe

Something appears to have red-pilled Pope Leo XIV, who used a whole bunch of words today to nearly go full-MAGA about the issue of immigration.

Human dignity, he said, “requires legal and safe routes, rescue and assistance, real cooperation against traffickers, effective protection for victims, serious processes of welcome and integration, and policies that allow each person to live with dignity in his or her own land.”

My theory?
Globalists might be getting nervous at the reaction to the Nowak case, or nervous at seeing Catholics and Protestants uniting in reaction to the Belfast incident.

The bigger this gets people are going to start looking at the people and organizations that facilitated these migrant invasions, and organizations like Catholic Charities will be firmly in the crosshairs.

A calculated retreat.

They may decide to wait until President Trump is finished with his term.

I suspect the Northern Ireland issue finally woke him out of his 60 year slumber.
Probably won’t last.

Doubt it because he's an ideologue, not a pragmatist.

The Pope, a political figure along with a religious one, leads the Vatican.

As I have admirably noted before:

The Vatican’s borders are protected by a multi-layered security system.

The Wall surrounding it is 40 feet deep at its thickest.

Vatican Gendarmerie (Corpo della Gendarmeria) is the state’s highly trained police corps. They patrol the perimeter, manage public access points, and operate advanced security-camera and motion-detector systems along the historic walls.

Italy and the Schengen Area police forces assist in monitoring the surrounding borders to prevent unauthorized entry before individuals.

Monetary penalties range from €10,000 to €25,000.Anyone convicted of illegal entry can face one to four years in prison. These penalties increase if the incident involves weapons or vehicles.

Unauthorized use of drones or airspace incurs additional prison sentences and fines.

Increased penalties for illegal attempts at immigration or to commit crimes....

I’ll believe that Pope Leo is sincere when he calls for all illegal immigrants to be forcibly removed. Send them back to where they came from.

You know, just what the Swiss Guards do when they find a trespasser within the Vatican.

He sounds like he is conflating immigrants and refugees. It makes me wonder if he actually believes they are the same thing or it’s a rhetorical trick. Within the norms of international law, we absolutely should welcome refugees. But “refugee” does not include:

Those fleeing economic hardship or crime.

Thoe who should be welcomed by other nations first (Refugees are generally understood to flee to the nearest safe country, not flee to the most desirable, most prosperous country.) So basically everyone besides Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas and Cuba.

Those who are causing the problem (Warriors, terrorists, those ideologically or economically attached to the government other people are fleeing, random young males from crime-torn countries, ...)

Further, it should be understood that refugee status is temporary, that refugees are expected to return home, and that “family reunification” means going home.

> we absolutely should welcome refugees <

I won’t disagree, if the refugees are truly fleeing from persecution. And I would add one more condition. The refugee must accept the cultural norms of their host country. None of this “Islam will conquer” stuff.

Anyway, how many true refugees has Vatican City accepted? Based on its size, there is room there for at least 2500 (I actually did a calculation). Yet I’ll bet you a euro that they have accepted none. As in zero.

Maybe he realized that poor folk suffering in humility don’t go around cutting people’s head off.

I dont support refugees passing through dozens of safe countries to get into the one they would prefer.

Sorry Bobby, if you weren’t against unlimited illegal immigration from the beginning, you’re not welcome with the rest of us folk that have commonsense and love this country.

Doesn’t sound closer to MAGA to me. Sounds like he wants created system to move more people around so it looks legal.
