Survivors of the USS Liberty

They've worked hard for this recognition.

The Skipper was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor. Instead of the usual publicity and White House setting, this ‘ceremony’ took place at the Washington Navy Yard. Quietly. One of my friends was a classmate of the honoree and was invited.

Had no idea about that...

>Agreed.

That’s rare... Sadly, I think Massie spoke to a largely empty chamber on this.

Since the Japanese bombed us at Pearl Harbor, we should not help defend them if attacked by China. Since the Vincennes shot down an Iraqi airbus in the 80s, today’s Iraq should not cooperate with the US. /s

Since the Liberty was a SIGINT boat, you cannot guarantee that the official story matches the full set of classified information surrounding the event. No one without the appropriate clearance can guarantee what the “truth” is.

But even if you want to believe that it was evil intent of Israelis in that case, that is irrelevant to today. Relations between sovereigns are more martial, not marital, and certainly not childish.

The only reason to bring this up today is to help defend Iran and their islamic terrorists. For some reason, no one seems to “honor” the Liberty until there’s widely reported fighting involving Israel.

And since this childish notion that any harm from one sovereign must preclude cooperation henceforth by another only seems to apply to relations between the US and Israel, it is indeed anti-semitic.

I knew absolutely nothing about this until recently. Here is the AI summary to my query: "When was the USS liberty attacked?"

"The USS Liberty was attacked on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War. The assault occurred in international waters off the northern coast of the Sinai Peninsula while the ship was conducting an intelligence collection mission.

Attack Details The combined air and sea attack began at approximately 3:05 p.m. and lasted about 23 minutes. Israeli Air Force jet fighters strafed and bombed the vessel with napalm, followed by Israeli Navy motor torpedo boats that fired torpedoes and gunfire."

Thomas Massie commemorated the anniversary of the attack on the floor of congress. The remaining survivors were in attendance. Here is a short excerpt of his comments:

Congressman Massie Commemorates the Attack on the USS Liberty

That’s not surprising that you’ve haven’t heard much about it. Massie’s keeping it alive but the story is rarely told

There have been documentaries on it in years gone by

Why rare?

When Massie, rarely, does the right thing I give him credit for doing the right thing.

It’s really NOT rocket science.

Thanks for the X link:

Going Underground
@GUnderground_TV

Congressman Thomas Massie commemorates Israel’s attack on the USS Liberty, which occurred on this day in 1867, ......

It says the attack took place in 1867 (sic!). Was it part of the reconstruction after the CW???

This is not just a simple mistake; the fact that someone can put the incident in the wrong century just goes to show how little knowledge re the 6-Day War in June 1967 one can expect from very many commenters. Sad....

I get all that, and I am a resolute supporter of Israel. Yet, as with the attack on Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and the assassination of JFK, key aspects of the attack on the Liberty remain suppressed. No one likes being lied to as if they are a gullible dolt. Suspicion as to Israel's conduct is natural, and it is hard to believe that the attack on the Liberty was an innocent mistake.

I give him credit for doing the right thing

Except he's not. He's just using them as pawns to highlight the Liberty event because he's against Trump's current military action with Iran.

He's been in office since 2012. And he does this now because he cares about the sailors? Sell it to someone else.

That’s fair enough but plenty dont or won’t. I find that sad.

Anyway, he’s on his way out but I’m sure it wont be the last we hear from him on important issues

And that is a totally fair criticism. But it’s still the right thing to do as far as the crew of the Liberty goes. Since Massie is now a lame-d*ck - I don’t care about the rest.

I’m sure it won’t be the last we hear from him on his ever evolving TDS, either, sadly.

Kentuckians told him they were through with him. Sadly, he’s not through with us.

Have you seen some of the documentaries? It’s rare they get an airing.

YouTube would be useful here as long as it’s not suppressed (I’ve not looked...)

No one likes being lied to

How do you know you're being lied to and, perhaps more importantly, who's doing the lying?

The SIGINT world is up there with recon in terms of level of classification. You are not going to get the full story and those that understand why certain military and intelligence info is classified understand that.

Those that know it's classified can use that to easily dupe the public with conspiracy theory. The most telling fact as to where the "truth" lies is that Liberty stories always and only make appearance when the US is cooperating with Israel.

"It says the attack took place in 1867 (sic!)"

I did my own double take when I saw that. That was why I ran my AI query.

I believe it was a simple typo.

as the crew of the Liberty goes

Agreed, the crew's service is honorable. Unfortunately, due to the intelligence nature of the operations, service members rarely receive recognition. Even less frequently for civilian intel folks.
