Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of murder for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet.
There was an audible gasp in the courtroom when his 35-year sentence was passed down on Tuesday evening. He will be eligible for parole after serving half of the time.
The same jury found Anthony guilty of murder earlier in the day for the stabbing death of Metcalf in 2025.
When the decades-long sentence was announced two women were escorted out of the courtroom after they said 'We love you Karmelo!' following the sentencing.
It came after the judge had already informed those in the public gallery that anyone having an emotional outburst would be removed from the courtroom.
Anthony, 19, sobbed and his family burst into tears as the judge read the guilty verdict. His mother had begged a jury to show him 'mercy' ahead of sentencing.
Jurors were then presented with arguments from the defense and prosecution before being sent out to deliberate on the length of his punishment.
Following Anthony's sentencing, victim impact statements were read aloud by members of Metcalf's devastated family including his aunt and the teenager's father.

He will be out in his 59s and still able to have kids. Lame.
On the other hand, this sentence will take up most of the rest of his parents’ lives, giving them plenty of time to reconsider how their firstborn ended up with an arrogant, pugnacious attitude, as they travel back and forth to speak over a phone across three-inch thick lucite to their precious smartass, the one in the orange work clothes.
I would have to see that decree. Generally speaking, a "life" sentence in UK is twenty years, out in ten for "good" behavior.
He will kill again, bank on it.
Life in prison without parole would be some justice.
Capital punishment is justice.
The sentence he got is not justice.
He robbed that wonderful kid of many decades of life.
Blacks would riot over the sentence if the races were reversed.
Blacks will riot of anything.

Hopefully he won’t last that long.
Life in prison in the UK is only 20 years or so. W
Woke appeals judge will toss the conviction and order a retrial. No blacks on jury will be the grounds for appeal.
35 years is a slap on the wrist even if Anthony serves his entire sentence and this little dirt bag will likely be out on parole in 17.5 years give or take

He hasn't appealed.
I served as a juror on a kidnapping/murder trial. The crime was captured on security cameras.
We took only 45 minutes to return a guilty verdict.
Our verdict was later overturned on appeal.
The appeals court sided with the defense theory, one that we, the jury, specifically rejected during our deliberations.

More likely he’ll have stature among his peers.
He should have gotten the needle.
