Families in a New Jersey school district were left outraged after a cafeteria menu distributed for June displayed a watermelon graphic on Juneteenth — prompting school officials to condemn the image as racially offensive and demand immediate action from the district’s food-service contractor.
Montclair Public Schools said the image appeared on a June cafeteria menu prepared by food-service provider Sodexo and sparked complaints from students, families, staff and community members.
Superintendent Ruth Turner said those who saw the menu were “hurt, disappointed, and offended” by the graphic’s appearance alongside the June 19 holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

It might have changed since I stopped teaching there, but in Jamaica people called their children pickninnies, just as we would say kids, and without any concern or offense. Caught me off guard the first time I heard it.
Racist people see racism in all things.
Just remember that June 19 represents the day a white army officer told Texas blacks that they were free due to the white Republican President Abe Lincoln issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. With few exceptions the slaves didn’t free themselves.
This isn’t about racist people and blacks being truly offended.
This is about black power and making society conform to their wishes.
They not only expect taxpayers to pay for their free meals - they want taxpayers to be forced to abide by some unwritten rules
about what they find acceptable, what is on the menu and how the food is presented to them.
And if whitey doesn’t conform it’s tantrum time!

Fine, tell ‘em because of this now there’s not going to be any watermelon and see if they like that better. No fried chicken either.
Also: no melons of any kind because they might offend large-breasted women, no apples because they might offend small-breasted women, no bananas or twinkies because gays might be offended. No Fritos, no Eskimo Pies, and for heaven’s sake - no Oreos!
I’m still trying to figure out HOW to celebrate this holiday.
Irony likely being that the “liberal” group in “protest” is Leftist whites. Because the only people trying to link a food, or food group to “racism” (an entirely impossible thing to do, since the foods have existed long before any “cultural misappropriation” could have ever occurred).
A poster in honor of what they are celebrated by name of event on a SCHOOL menu with grapics of a watermelon in/on it. How beyond passe and limp is such a grandstanding.
Whites eat watermelon too, and, in a larger sense, most watermelon is grown by farmers who are....white, as well. See: largest producers of watermelons by State in the US.
One more to wit: A statue honoring composer Stephen Foster (liberal from way back when, and anti-slavery), in Pittsburgh, PA was torn down by these re-educators— because the statue has Foster seated with “black looking”- farmers with wheat stalks and harvest scythes in their hands looking up adorably to his personage! The man who wrote “Angelina Baker” in.. 1853- in sympathy to the many separated blacks sold away from their spouses to be. Fact. But then, these idiots tore down a Lincoln statue in Illinois because— “he white man”. Holy crap. Commies in action as always.
Just think of Juneteenth as the day Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed.

Me too! How can this be such—since whites, blacks, hispanics etc all.. ALL eat melons, cantaloupes, watermelons, chicken/fried/braised/taco meat, greens of various types and preparations. This is NOT cultural appropriation— except by the a@@clowns who would make such assumptions and demand the foods not be represented on ANY menu. A menu which comes out for the week of June 19th. Imagine.
