What many conservatives miss, even ones who have not fallen under the influence of Alexander Dugin and the appearance of Vladimir Putin making the Sign of the Cross, is that Russia, China, and Iran are allies and have considerable military and economic relationships between each other. Cuba, North Korea, Nicaragua, and, until recently, Venezuela are lesser members of the anti-American and anti-Western alliance.
The Cold War never ended. The old Soviet elite put on an Orthodox Christian costume and pretended to be traditionalist. At heart, the rulers of Russia are still committed to Marxism-Leninism. The Chinese Communists adopted what Lenin called the New Economic Policy after pure socialism failed in Russia, but on steroids and much longer lasting. China now has an economy of state capitalism more like that of Hitler's Germany than of Mao's China. Since the fall of the Shah, the Iranian leadership has had close ties to both countries, despite Chinese persecution of their fellow Muslims in western China. Their proxies like Hezbollah are essentially Communists with an Islamic veneer.
