At least 300 non-Iranian ships have applied for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz with Tehran’s new authority seeking to create a permanent toll system along the vital passageway.
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) said the majority of the ships applying were oil tankers, with at least 77% of the applicants looking to exit the Persian Gulf to reach Asia, particularly China and India, two of the Middle East’s largest fuel buyers.
The PGSA’s remarks came as the IRGC announced that its naval forces have escorted 24 vessels through the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours.
The IRGC also confirmed that it was behind the attack on the Panama-flagged MSC Sariska V container ship near Kuwait as retaliation for the US strike on the Iranian vessel M/V Lian Star.
The US maintains that its warships patrolling the Gulf of Oman have intercepted 121 commercial vessels as of Monday, with five additional ships “disabled” to ensure the blockade on Iran’s ports.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the key issues regarding the fragile US-Iran peace talks, with Tehran seeking to permanently establish the toll system while the Trump administration demands the passage remain open and free.

Blockade any ship that pays a toll to the Iranians.
You pay the toll and you’re going nowhere. We’ll see to that.

Iran needs to be bombed until their leadership comes to understand that their behavior is NOT acceptable!
IF they are paying to get out, will we allow the sanctioned oil to reach port?
IF they are paying to get out, will they pay to get back in? Or find another supplier?
indeed, Barbary Pirates all over again ...
iran has about one year of this piracy before all of the various bypass pipelines under construction are completed and are put into service ...
yes,
well .. Sears used to sell some good stuff ... apparently superior to anything our great USN and USAF have?
Fishing boats retrofitted with machine guns I presume.
Perhaps setting the precedent for British/French/Spanish/Moroccan taxes for passage through the English Channel and Straits of Gibralter, both narrower than the Straits of Hormuz. And the Baltic, even narrower and controlled by Denmark on both sides. And many other straits.
Unintended consequences.
Not to mention southern access to the Red sea. So much for the pipelines being used and expanded there.
