Thine alabaster cities gleam
is a bit ironic these days
Ray Charles sings “America the Beautiful” at the 1984 RNC Convention.
We sang it as “thine ala-BASTARD cities gleam” figuring the teachers wouldn’t notice.
Written in 1893 - that was the America before the 16th, 17th and 19th amendment.
NOTHING says, “AMERICA” like the “Star Spangled Banner! and “God Bless The U.S.A.” IMHO.
Yes, I was going to write the same.

Bates wrote some of the most beautiful lyrics ever penned. But, unfortunately, she could not “see beyond the years” to understand how much future Democrats would HATE America.
