During today’s “Murph” workout, I decided to flip the music from hip-hop remixes to Patrick Hawkes’ “The Great War Symphony” (which I heard “The Last Post” from it at church Sunday).

Only a few understood the meaning why doing Murph set to this piece was relevant. Personally, I think this is relevant, as is starting the workout with “The Last Post”, and even playing Mozart’s Requiem.

My Baroque music brain trained from von Stade, Fleming, and the local orchestra along with Professor Hill-LaRoche wants material that is relevant for the day, not regular season pop.

And this is a solemn day why I have for a decade done Murph.

Yesterday at church, "America the Beautiful" was sung and like many other pieces in the national canon, I was reminded by the rest of the song and the oft forgotten or unknown lyrics. It's a true hymn!

Even "Star Spangled Banner" (after the first stanza, which is our anthem) ends up leaning into the religious and spiritual, than mere nationalism.
