The Corleone saga shifts to Connie as author Adriana Trigiani and Paramount revive 'The Godfather' with a new novel and film adaptation.
More than three decades after the final installment of The Godfather trilogy hit theaters, the Corleone family is officially returning with a new chapter — and this time, the story belongs to the daughter, Connie Corleone.
According to The Associated Press, Random House announced that bestselling author Adriana Trigiani will write Connie, a new novel authorized by the estate of Mario Puzo, with a planned release set for fall 2027. Paramount Pictures is also developing a new film adaptation tied to the project, extending one of Hollywood’s most influential crime sagas into a new era.
The upcoming novel will focus on Connie Corleone, the overlooked but pivotal daughter of Don Vito Corleone, originally portrayed by Talia Shire in all three films. According to Random House, the book marks the first Godfather novel written by a woman and only the third officially approved continuation from the Puzo estate.
Paramount currently controls the screen rights to the franchise following a long-running legal battle between the studio and Puzo’s estate over ownership of the Corleone characters.
The return of The Godfather arrives more than 55 years after the original novel changed crime fiction forever. First published in 1969, the book introduced mainstream audiences to terms such as “consigliere” and “Cosa Nostra” while helping to redefine the gangster genre in American pop culture.
The 1972 film adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola went on to become one of the most celebrated movies ever made, winning Best Picture and helping launch the careers of stars including Al Pacino and Marlon Brando.
Trigiani said the new novel will explore Connie’s rise in a world dominated by powerful men. “Connie is a novel about how a woman works to forge her own way in a world that’s already decided who she is,” she said in a statement.
She added that underestimating Connie Corleone would prove just as dangerous as underestimating Vito or Michael Corleone. Anthony Puzo, Mario Puzo’s son and executor of the estate, said the family specifically sought out Trigiani after reading an essay she wrote about the women of the Corleone universe and how little attention they had received over the years.
The project also revives a franchise that has remained culturally dominant long after the release of The Godfather Part III in 1990. The original trilogy earned nine Academy Awards and more than $400 million worldwide while influencing generations of filmmakers, television writers, rappers, and crime dramas.
The films have also remained staples in music and sports culture, referenced everywhere from The Sopranos to hip-hop lyrics to modern meme culture.

“I’m going to make you an offer your white privilege can’t turn down.”
Part III wasn’t very good. Couldn’t hold a candle to the first two.
Might be Francis Ford Capolla’s daughter, Sofia, who will be the director.
I think that’s been done already. ‘Queen of the South’.
How about Fredo is brought back as a zombie, transitions to a black lesbian women, then joins the military were she overthrows the other branches of the government, and finally runs for president winning in an election were 100% of voters confirm her. Come on, sounds just as plauasble
