Probably the same beings who have stacked rocks all over the Southwest (e.g. Mexican Hat, UT).
As for trail markers stacked up by nitwit hikers who think they're Mark Trail (remember Mark Trail?), I generally knock them down. If you can't navigate without piles of rocks, stay home. And don't blaze trees, either, whatever your 1920s Boy Scout Handbook might say.
Nothing quite like snots like you, who could be deadly to other hikers. Wear it with pride.
