I would have associated the number 8 car with Dale Earnhardt Jr. I have not been following NASCAR and did not know Kyle had been hired by RCR.

Richard Childress Racing debuted the Number 8 car in 1981.

At sometime it went to Dale Earnhardt Incorporated.

The Number 8 car went to Chip Ganassi Racing and was shut down in 2009.
