C-SPAN coverage features cognitive neuroscientist Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath testifying before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation regarding the impact of screen time and classroom technology on youth. In his testimony, Dr. Horvath warned lawmakers that Gen Z is the first generation in modern history to underperform previous generations across cognitive measures like attention, memory, and general IQ. He argued that introducing digital devices into learning environments has actively contributed to this cognitive decline, as human brains are not biologically wired to learn from screens. This is the first generation in human history that is getting DUMBER after being educated. This is the link to video or Dr Horvath's section of the hearing. https://x.com/i/status/2057144752617779243

My sister taught math to middle school and high school kids for 45 years. She saw the same thing.
That on top of a TEN TIMES increase in number of meddlesome “administrators” telling teachers how to teach.
How much on TV....that kids would watch.....is for their education? They probably never watch Congressional hearings; not that it would be educational for anybody.
Nothing better to do than this?
Are you a nut? Our kids and whether the hours they spend in school are well spent is irrelevant to you?
So don’t read the article or listen to the research.
This has nothing to do with TV. This about kids being educated in school by interacting with their school provided chromebooks rather than teachers teaching, asking questions and having discussions about the subject matter. The research was on kids being taught by computer 5 or more hours a day. They studied kids in 80 countries that are being educated by computer in school 5+ hours a day. I had no idea this was the mainstream in schools now. Finding out that it is and that the results on learning and intellectual development was shocking.
Decisions on how kids are taught should be based on objective criterion. It appears that based on objective criterion chrome books teaching kids is an epic fail and should be discontinued or used for limited functions. In addition these chrome books are often donated or subsidized by the companies that make them. This is a market share manuever, creating a demand and a dependance. Less work for teachers too.
True, it’s a problem. But it’s for parents to address. My point is there are many more important things congress might want to look at…..
Again…I don’t disagree….but it’s not something for congress to address. Perhaps on the state kevel
Thank you for your courtesy. When the Department of Education is eliminated the oversight of public school curriculum will move to the states.
