Actor Harrison Ford told graduates at Arizona State University (ASU) to “extend social justice” to clean up the environmental “mess” his generation left behind for them.
The legendary “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” actor gave the commencement speech during a graduation ceremony on May 11, where he received an honorary Doctor of Arts and Humane Letters degree for his work in conservation.
Ford’s background in fighting climate change was a significant theme throughout the speech as he warned students about the need for “cultural change” to prevent “mass extinction” caused by corruption and global warming.
“Humanity is a part of nature, not above it,” Ford said. “We have an essential mandate to protect 30% of the world’s land and sea by 2030, to prevent the mass extinction, to slow the warming of our planet.
“Still, despite new science, new policies, we are still losing nature to profiteering, corruption, conflict — including land that is already protected on paper. These efforts matter, but they’re not enough.”
He continued, “We need cultural change. We need to extend social justice. We need to respect and elevate the Indigenous people that are being marginalized and, in many cases, killed in cold blood.
“These communities have long understood that the trees, the mountain, water, soil are not commodities. They are relatives to be cherished for following generations to embrace and protect.”
Ford encouraged graduates and members of their generation to go out and “change the world” after acknowledging that past generations, including his, left the world a mess.

Regards,
Nothing like showing just how much of a senile relic you are.
Shut up and act, if you can’t do that anymore just go back to your pudding Mr. Ford
I'm planning on doing the same thing Harry did.
He’s nuts.

Bet Disney loves the timing given their new Star Wars film is about to open...
First Hamill, now Ford.
Saw clips of it. Everyone commenting on sociopathic media what a wonderful speech it was. My takes:
1 He seemed very angry, maybe constipated.
2 Been following HF many years, not that aware of him devoting a lot of effort to “social justice”. His reputation is as a reclusive grouch who doesn’t like to talk to people.
What's Wookie for effing hypocrite?
These celebrities have BILLIONS of dollars between them that they use to fund their luxury lifestyles. Why don’t they donate all of their money for the greater good?
Make believe, pseudo intellectual thought from a guy who has made a fortune pretending to be made up, make believe people.
His generation caused all the ills he is claiming has happened.
Yes, I agree, we need to clean up. I have a pile of old worn out tires that need burning.
This guy has made some great movies, however the last couple years or so he’s jumped onto the lefties band wagon making stupid statements such as this. I don’t know what his motive is, but he’s tainting his own legacy.
Go back to sleep old man
Just what is “social justice”, anyway? One suspects it has much more to do with “socialist” than with any recognized kind of “justice”.
Just another excuse for “Gimme all your valuables and submit, sucker!”
Han Solo/Indiana Jones has wandered into a fever swamp, there may not be any coming back.
It seems the rebels were all leftist nutcases. Maybe Alec Guinness was somewhat sane.
Where’s the Death Star when you need it?
Sad how acting appears to suck IQ out of their already challenged brains.
