I have seen that line at least a hundred times lately and each person acts like they thought it up all by themselves.

It could be that their crafts were not designed for what is encountered here. Or, as in Roswell, two or three collided.

Exactly. The space alien craft have overcome the laws of physics to travel across time and between galaxies, but they forgot to add brakes?

Exactly! Just like humans can fly across the Atlantic, but when they get to either side...they always crash! Every single one. Every time. Always. Silly hoomans.

The Makers build 'em cheap and do a large number of missions with them. Sometimes things break. It's a small percentage.

The Makers don't care about breakage much more than we care about empty bottles of ketchup. But they are into recycling their stuff if it is convenient for them.
