Talk about being anti-war and making sure the population of the U.S. never has skin in the game anymore.
“Professional” is a buzzword for “all-volunteer”. In a major attack on the mainland, that won’t ever be a sufficient fighting force.
Do you see any of our enemies eliminating conscription?

I was included among the millions who were drafted in the Post WWII era. “Unewilling” was not a label pasted on us. Those unwilling that Wyden describes — and best describes Wyden himself and his cowardly cohort — are those close to his generation, and it excludes thousands of draftees who participated in Viet Nam epoch.
But we don’t actually conscript anyone, and haven’t for more than half a century. If we ever actually need to do it, we can ramp up the administrative stuff very quickly anyway simply by accessing IRS, Social Security, and other records.
