Charlize Theron Says ‘In 10 Years, AI Is Going to Be Able to Do’ Timothée Chalamet’s Job, but it ‘Will Not Be Able to Replace’ Ballet
Variety ^ | Apr 18, 2026 | Jack Dunn

Charlize Theron recently told The New York Times she thought it was “very reckless” for Timothée Chalamet to claim that “no one cares” about the opera or ballet...

During “A CNN & Variety Town Hall Event,” Chalamet said that he doesn’t want theatrical movie going to end up like “ballet or opera,” where artists want to “keep this thing alive” even though “no one cares” about it anymore...

Interviewer Lulu Garcia-Navarro then alluded to Chalamet’s now infamous statement, to which Theron replied,

“Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day. That was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time. But in 10 years, AI is going to be able to do Timothée’s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live.”

She continued, “And we shouldn’t [expletive] on other art forms. Dance taught me discipline. It taught structure. It taught hard work. It taught me to be tough. It’s borderline abusive. There were several times that I had blood infections from blisters that just never healed. And you don’t get a day off. I’m literally talking about bleeding through your shoes. And that’s something that you have to practice every single day, the mind-set of just, you don’t give up, there’s no other option, you keep going.”

I had never heard of Timothée Chalamet until I saw “A Complete Unknown” on Hulu.

He certainly captured Dylan in his different phases during that period...even his “muttering speech” dialect.

Not a huge Dylan fan but enjoyed that film - nice to see the subtle reference to how Al Kooper’s iconic organ got on “Like A Rolling Stone”.

Would you pay to see robotized / hologram sports?

Me, no, but I'm sure others would. And since people are willing to gamble online, avatar sports would likely sell well.

He is a guy most men don’t watch ballet for pleasure, they watch because of wives.

Posting while manicure measures in place.

My content is clear. She is mobbing up on Timothe. She’d never do that if it were some actor who was not a white male

She can say all she wants about what will happen in ten years, but it seems silly. All I can think of when I see her and her mob is in ten years their faces are going to be unpresentable in public

Ironic

She is getting older and bitter and 99.9% of the population does NOT care for ballet. Stating the obvious and months later, they are still whining.

I enjoyed watching that too but never thought about the guy's name.   I saw Bob Dylan with Merle Haggard at Chastain Park Amphitheater, Atlanta, GA, and lo and behold it was 20 years ago today.   I guess you could call me a fan.   And "Tangled Up In Blue" is an all time masterpiece.
