Charlize Theron Says ‘In 10 Years, AI Is Going to Be Able to Do’ Timothée Chalamet’s Job, but it ‘Will Not Be Able to Replace’ Ballet
Variety ^ | Apr 18, 2026 | Jack Dunn

Charlize Theron recently told The New York Times she thought it was “very reckless” for Timothée Chalamet to claim that “no one cares” about the opera or ballet...

During “A CNN & Variety Town Hall Event,” Chalamet said that he doesn’t want theatrical movie going to end up like “ballet or opera,” where artists want to “keep this thing alive” even though “no one cares” about it anymore...

Interviewer Lulu Garcia-Navarro then alluded to Chalamet’s now infamous statement, to which Theron replied,

“Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day. That was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time. But in 10 years, AI is going to be able to do Timothée’s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live.”

She continued, “And we shouldn’t [expletive] on other art forms. Dance taught me discipline. It taught structure. It taught hard work. It taught me to be tough. It’s borderline abusive. There were several times that I had blood infections from blisters that just never healed. And you don’t get a day off. I’m literally talking about bleeding through your shoes. And that’s something that you have to practice every single day, the mind-set of just, you don’t give up, there’s no other option, you keep going.”

Haven’t liked her for a long time. Adopted kids and claims one decided to switch genders at age THREE. Tragic.

So, she buys black babies from Africa and sterilizes them?

That's kinda based if you ask me.

When asked for a response Chalomet exclaimed “There is no one in this room who can stand against me!”

Charlize, that was a ‘big concern’ way back in early March.
Most of Hollywood has moved on. Get with the program!

Besides, the more you try to re-invent Tim into some big, ugly Gargoyle, the more significant a character you make of him. That turns you, the complainer into a noisy (”old”) Chihuahua snapping at his shoes. Haven’t you figured that out yet?

AI is only going to augment film.

A real person will always be needed to sell film, attend awards shows, influence watch and jewelry sales, clothes etc

He’s right. No one cares at all about opera or ballet. They are long past any semblance of popularity or cultural influence - kept alive by grants and funding, often at a loss - just because. It didn’t used to be that way. Handel made a fortune with Italian opera form - until people got sick of it, and he changed gears immediately to stay popular.
