Doctors can refuse to treat LGBTQ+ patients in several states – these religious exemption laws lead to drops in HIV testing

An increasing number of U.S. states have passed laws that allow health care providers – including doctors, nurses and pharmacists – to refuse to treat patients based on their personal or religious beliefs. While these conscientious objection laws have long existed for issues such as abortion, their effects on LGBTQ+ people have not been well studied.

As of April 2026, 11 U.S. states have enacted conscientious objection laws specifically targeting LGBTQ+ people. As public health researchers who study the effects of public policies on the health of LGBTQ+ people, we wanted to examine how these laws have affected the roughly 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ Americans living in a state where a provider can legally refuse them care.

Let's be perfectly clear. NO ONE is being denied general, necessary medical care that is needed. What's being denied is special, elective procedures that contribute NOTHING to a person's health and actually put them at great risk.

If homosexuals/trannies are "just like everyone else," why do their healthcare need differ so drastically from everyone else?

This article is pure propaganda. It does not explain what the laws say. No, the laws don’t permit doctors to refuse to treat someone simply because they are gay. If a gay man has cancer, the doctor can’t refuse to treat him. Just propaganda.

I’ll play the devil’s advocate and posit that the article suggests that if a patient suspects that his doctor is more conservative (sane) and won’t readily endorse high-risk homosexual behavior, the patient may be less likely to request an HIV test from the doctor. Or at least not every 3 months, which is the recommendation for fags.

That’s the goal of the laws that REQUIRE certain treatments. Force doctors to give HIV tests or other tests and then sue if they don’t. Its not about treatment. Its about setting up lawsuits to advance an agenda.

They need their own, fully paid for by them, medical facilities for lgbtq peeps. That way their HIV, covid jab infected blood can stay in the community.

I’d be all for that.

Isn’t this “community” well-heeled? They should be able to fund it.

HIV is a self-inflicted illness, spread by BEHAVIOR.

Because of climate change, genocide, capitalism and institutional cisgender homophobia! Duh!

It’s the behavior that leads to HIV that’s the problem not any rate of testing for it

I always laugh about “testing” being their core strategy for disease management.

That’s like trying to drive your car using only the rear view mirror.

Well, right now on queue, the sodomites playing the victim card. Right as the bathhouses get more popular, it’s election season. I think more homosexuals are increasingly seeing the Republicans as the party of freedom and liberty. I know quite a few gay Trump and gun supporters. Can’t have that

Nobody is paying the co-pays for office calls for HIV testing when they can get free testing at the county health department or the myriad free clinics.

This is just fear porn.

Thanks to Obamacare, all things HIV are essentially "free" on any insurance plan. They construe HIV meds, preventative meds, etc. as "prevention" which is now supposed to be co-pay, deductible-free to patients.

The testing is covered, the office visit still incurs a co-pay.
