An elderly motorist is accused of driving through a group of bicyclists in Georgia — knocking one over and fracturing his spine — before speeding off in a hit-and-run that was caught on camera.
Jerry Wayne Ross, 72, flashed a smile in his booking photo as he faces charges for the alleged hit-and-run with his Honda Pilot, all caught on video, on April 23 in Cherokee County, Ga., according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
The North Georgia Cycling Association was on its weekly Thursday night ride when the older driver was accused of driving up on the group in a suspected road-rage incident.
The cyclists were in the middle of their 32-mile ride through Cherokee County when Ross appeared behind them, blasting his horn for nearly two miles along Sugar Pike Road in Canton.
“Just excessive. Didn’t let off the horn,” Richard Collins, the leader of the group, told Fox 5 Atlanta.
Ross was found hiding out at a neighbor’s house down the road after officials from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spotted damage to his SUV consistent with hitting a bicycle.
The suspected driver told authorities he had encountered the group of cyclists but denied responsibility, blaming the bikers for the collision, saying the riders had been in the middle of the road, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Ross was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, aggressive driving, hit-and-run and failing to maintain distance, according to jail records viewed by The Post.
He remains behind bars in the Cherokee County Jail with his charges totaling $24,540.

“I don’t want to be friends with you....” LOL!
“”””” who’ve never been on a bike in their entire lives.”””””
That is a really stupid thing to believe, the people on this thread have years of experience with riding bicycles and also with driving cars.
This is when I decided to sell my road bike.....it happened less than a mile from my normal riding route:
Man gets 8 years in prison for killing 2 cyclists on Race Track Road
Amish don't travel in packs and neither do farmers on tractors. And both are going about their business and usually very defensive and considerate of vehicles. They aren't out for sight-seeing or exercise or nature freaking.
We live near a campground where pets are welcome. City folks think they are in the wilderness and would walk their dogs up and down the road in packs. Unbelievable. Bikes and pooches and joggers. There are exercise machines that operate safely on people's private property.
Many cyclists believe that traffic laws don’t apply to them.
He looks pretty pleased with himself. Nobody can stand those self righteous cyclists taking up the whole road. I crested a hill once on the way to Mcbride on single lane highway, and right in front of me was a whole slew of them taking up the entire lane. It’s a miracle I didn’t get any. If there had been oncoming traffic they would have been struck. I had to veer hard to miss them. Taking the ditch wasn’t an option, it’s a long ways down.
Packs of cyclists don’t count as murder. They are like gophers. No bag limit.
Jokes aside. They create very dangerous situations and shouldn’t be allowed to block or impede traffic.
I agree. Cyclists have pissed me off before but this idiot ran them over when there was no need. He wasn’t boxed in and they were not deliberately going slow and blocking traffic. He could have just gone around.
The Bicyclists can be cited for obstructing the riad and....since they can be cited for violating the rules of the road, going too SLOW for prevailing traffic conditions especially if they could ride single file and didn’t. I think these sorts of incidents are going to escalate in frequency!
They were blocking traffic at slow speed when they could have moved over. It’s not like they were one tractor moving a load of hay that can’t easily move over. There are rules of the road that state slower traffic should move to the right IF ABLE to allow faster traffic to pass but they aren’t always enforced.
If I were the judge I would of course jail the driver but i would also have the leaders of the Bike group charged for incitement and wreckless riding and also force them to face culpability in the injuries that occurred.
If a irate driver is blasting his horn asking you to move over for 2 miles and you encourage the group to double down and you don’t recognize a safety issue facing the group you are leading, then you are responsible as well. A leader of the bike group should have told the group to move to the side briefly single file and let the man pass.
So I see 2 sides with their own faults in this story!
Depends if they were spread all over the road on both sides which happens or if it was technically a no passing section, which even then there is some leeway if obstuctions exist.
Agree on the Jailing of the driver, but since the leaders of bike group set the times and rules, they too have some culpability in ensuring safe biking and should have called for moving the group single file when traffic backs up behind them. If they were blocking the whole lane then they were driving recklessly and can be ticketed. Because the leaders of the group acted like douches, they should also be jailed by the judge for creating conditions that brought injury to one of their members.
Faults on both sides here.
Not really, it was a double yellow line. He crossed it anyway, but legally he didn’t have a whole nother lane he could use because of the double yellow line
Just a reminder.
White native born Americans will required to post Bail!
See my tagline..
“They are as entitled to use the roadways as you are.”
Two abreast is the rule. If you can’t go the speed limit you are at risk. Entitled or not, a bicycle in the way will lose against a car going 50 mph. Bicycles are not allowed on limited access roads period. Be entitled all you want, but get out of the way!
“This is when I decided to sell my road bike.....it happened less than a mile from my normal riding route:

Wow that’s harsh! At least in comparison to the female judge in (i believe) New Mexico who killed one cyclist and put another in the ICU. Poor thing was fined $85!!
“Many cyclists believe that traffic laws don’t apply to them.”
Thank God there aren’t any drivers who think that way!
The good thing about mountain biking on trails is you don’t have to worry about drunk/drugged/road raging/texting/talking/eating drivers. The only place i ride on a road anymore is a dead end one with 6’ wide shoulders. Still get nervous when a vehicle approaches from behind.
