How DMSO Became One of the Strangest Stories in Medicine

DMSO is a naturally occurring compound that is primarily derived as a byproduct of the wood pulp and paper industry, which makes it widely and affordably available. But that also creates a problem...

I love the stuff and hand out 2-3 ounces of 70% solution to anyone who complains to me about an ache or pain (for topical application). I spent 4 hours pulling dandelions a couple of days ago and my right knee was aching afterwards. I dipped a cotton ball in the DMSO and dabbed it all around my knee and the pain diminished significantly within 10 minutes. I reapplied it every 3-4 hours as needed. DMSO is both an analgesic and an anti-inflammatory so it doesn’t just mask the pain. I already told the story of my tooth extraction last September. Fantastic results without any antibiotics or pain pills from the dentist, plus the gum was completely healed within 3 weeks. I’ll never again be without DMSO in my home.

I’ve had to use DMSO a couple of times over the past 2 months. First, I fell while entering the Pilates studio and injured my calf muscle. (Instructor put a pile of black mats in center of the floor—where they are not supposed to be—and then left the lights off.) I was on crutches for three days, ice, elevation, compression, and DMSO (70% cut with organic jojoba oil). I’m not really sure it helped much, or maybe the injury would have been worse if I hadn’t used it? Hard to say. But one week after the tear/pull/strain, I noticed a huge amount of bruising around the Achilles, heel, ankle and foot. I had never had pain in those areas, (pull happened higher up behind knee and halfway down leg), so that was a mystery… would blood pool downwards like that? Application of magnesium lotion erased bruising after a couple of days.

im also using it for an eye issue…scratched my cornea back in December and it’s still bothering me. Eye gets so dry and painful in middle of the night. Have done the antibiotic drops and eye drops and still it persists. Tried putting the DMSO on the eyelid (have read that’s an option versus directly in eye), but it’s still an ongoing thing. Don’t think it’s helping.
