A UC Berkeley Institute of Government Studies poll released last month found 52% of California voters inclined to back the tax, 33% opposed, and 15% undecided.
Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom opposes the measure and has warned it could push wealthy residents to leave. Several billionaires and business leaders have criticized the proposal as anti-innovation and economically risky.

If they do leave, they need to go to another blue/wrecked state/city. Don’t come here.
Two words, voters: Laffer Curve.
Donald Trump advocated a 14% wealth tax in his book “The America We Deserve”. I could see it one time with a big cutback in government.
Tiger Woods grew up in California and loves the state. He took his millions to Florida.
I think I’ll vote yes. Do you really need to stand up for these people?
“Newsom warned it could push wealthy residents to leave”
COULD? They are already fleeing WA and CA.
Folks better read it. The caveats are many.
BEYOND STUPID VOTERS!
Unfortunately, these lefty billionaires - who supported and funded the likes of Gavin Newsom and his lefty minions - are fleeing to Florida - where they’ll undoubtedly use their billions to start funding lefty causes and candidates in that state.
Good luck on picking up the additional tax burden left to be disbursed across the rest of you tax payers.
Newsom/Mamdani 2028 demorat ticket
More like Allen/Mangione is their dream ticket.
Taking Steyer’s billions before the boy can save his precious Party of Death and Doom.
Not sure the wealthy will leave.
More like sneak out.
They are NIMBYs, not in my backyard folk at heart, but they like to pretend they are not.
California Billionaire Tax Likely Headed to Ballot
To be fair, ordinary California voters need to clean up their alleged very corrupt, elite Democratic-controlled state government, evidenced by the avoidable loss of homes in Pacific Palisades fire for example, before making the wealthy pay a special tax.
>>All the GOLDEN GEESE will be LEAVING the GOLDEN STATE!!
And then CA will pass a “pied-a-terre” style tax on anyone who ever lived in the state. I’m surprised they haven’t tried putting an “exit tax” in place first.

"I don't think so!"
Should be hilarious. The voters will wonder where all the money went.
my understaning is that it succintly lays the ground work to not stop at Billionaire, but work down to line to anyone that has $10 in their pocket. One of the provisions is an entire list of assests has to be provided to the state. I do not know if they will be counting windows in the house or going door to doot to see if anyone has new couches and the like....
(What state used to do that, was it Indiana?)
Terrible idea. how do you determine wealth? Does some government flunky come into your home and tell you what your jewelry, furniture, cars, etc. is worth.
Why should wealth be punished for reasons other than jealousy?
Money is taxed when you make it, when you spend it (sales tax), when you earn interest and grow it, and when you leave it after death.
I don’t care what the next guy makes and nor should you.
IIRC the item can be adjusted to any income level without any vote of the people.
