A video of Alex Lifeson, the guitarist of the band, “RUSH,” arguing with his parents about quitting high school to go into music. Alex’s dad wants him to follow him into the world of plumbing.
If you are a fan like me, it’s an amazing video.

Fascinating video, he had a real family and a smart dad who thought well, I hope they all ended up happy with each other, it looks like they would.
There may be a connection between the two career paths. High level astrophysics is math intense, and it has long been noted that talent in music and math tend to go together.
yes exactly
they talk about that in this video— you can scroll to about 11:53 to fast forward to the pertinent parts:

Alex is still married to his high school sweetheart.
Back in 1974 one of my friends in college (go gators!) who was a big deadhead dragged us to what we thought was a Tom Rush concert at the Great Southern Music Hall in Gainesville, FL. Tom Rush was a folk/blues musician and I wasn’t too excited about going but I went with a bunch of friends anyway.
It wasn’t Tom Rush, it was Rush on their first U.S. tour. I remember Alex was playing a beautiful gold top Les Paul and they kicked ass! My Deadhead friend was disappointed but I wasn’t. To think I almost did not go...
I think even if Rush didn’t work out, Alex and Geddy would still be best pals, goofing with each other.
It’s interesting enough to ask who all the attendees were at that get together. Seemed to be more than just family.

This is a scene from a documentary that was made in Canada and featured a group of teens that were put in a house and left to their own devices for a few months. The entire show used to be on Youtube, not sure if it still is. In this scene, Alexs’s folks pay a visit to the house.
thanks for the info. If you can find that one of these days, maybe post it. I will try to find it. The documentary I mean.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US Pacific Fleet had a diminished need for ceremonial bands. Quite a few musicians were then repurposed to other roles. Many of the band from the Arizona ended up in CINCPAC’s legendary cryptanalysis unit. Some became accomplished code breakers due to a combination of math skill and motivation.
It’s called Come on Children. Still there.
that’s too funny
perfect, thanks much!
Actually he finished is Doctorate many years later (2007). But he obviously would never have had to really worry about employment;oyment.
Thanks for those links!
