A video of Alex Lifeson, the guitarist of the band, “RUSH,” arguing with his parents about quitting high school to go into music. Alex’s dad wants him to follow him into the world of plumbing.
If you are a fan like me, it’s an amazing video.

Did Alex tell him ‘Blah blah blah blah blah BLAH blah......’
pretty much!!!
Alex should have listened to his father. /s
There’s a video from a few years ago with Alex watching this, and he basically said his dad was right.
literally one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
I saw that! both Geddy’s and Alex’s moms looked well-dressed and well taken care of so they’re fine with it. ha
He was pretty funny on The Trailer Park Boys, he could have had a good career playing comedy roles.
To be fair, if you’re playing the odds a plumber will do better than a musician.
Average salary in US, plumber: $65,000
Average salary in US, musician: $44,000
But like with anything else, you never know.
And there’s an advantage in doing what you love.
I’m not a huge Rush fan, but I read Geddy’s book, and it was pretty good, he went into detail about his parents’ Holocaust experiences.
yes. He said growing up with that was pretty heavy ,( as you could imagine) and he wanted to get away. But his mom thought they were basically joining the circus.
And for everyone that makes it, a thousand others don’t.
And if it weren’t for 2112, they would have been just another of those thousand.
it’s not like his dad and mom didn’t love him. It’s just funny looking back. They were all so upset.
Something tells me you got to take that chance. 12 years should not be mandatory. I do believe Franky Valli didn’t finish school. Plenty of noteworthy others I’m sure.
Just have a backup plan.
yeah bill Gates dropped out of college. Thomas Edison just took a few grades
By that time, keyboardist Benmont Tench was in college at Tulane in New Orleans. So Petty had to convince Benmont's father, a circuit judge in Gainesville, Florida, that his son should drop out of college.
To Petty's surprise, the austere Judge Tench, whom I met many years ago, gave Petty a chance to make his case. Judge Tench agreed for his son Benmont to take a year off from college to see if Petty's rock band was a success. And of course it was.
And Brian may from Queen had a PhD in astrophysics before the band too off. That’s so funny
Tom Sholtz (Boston) is an EE I believe.
he sure is. What a genius. Made everything in his basement.
