Records indicate her campaign spent nearly $17,000 at the venue for food, beverages, and space rentals between 2018 and May 2020. She held her August 2018 Democratic primary victory party at the restaurant.
The restaurant was co-owned by Salim Ahmed Said, who was later convicted of stealing over $250 million in a federal child nutrition program fraud scheme (Feeding Our Future).
In 2020, Omar appeared in a video promoting the restaurant as a meal distribution site during the pandemic, at a time when the restaurant was allegedly filing fraudulent claims.
According to a March 2025 court ruling, a video showing Omar at the restaurant was allowed in the trial of the co-defendant, despite arguments from her office and supporters that she was “unaware” of the fraudulent activities. —— Sahan Journal
