I think "Cucamonga" was also one of Jack Benny's running gags.
My grandfather used to work with this guy who was deathly afraid of bugs. So of course my grandfather would play all kinds of gags to torment him. Sometimes he would mail him fake bugs in the mail, and he always put "Cucamonga" as the return address.
Yes indeed, the Anaheim, Azusa & Cucamonga Railroad. There's also The Battle of Cucamonga by Homer & Jethro (1959)
Cucamonga before 1980 was a wide spot in the road on Foothill Blvd., aka Route 66. In 1976 it became part of the city of Rancho Cucamonga, which comprised Cucamonga, Etiwanda and Alta Loma. My grandfather lived in Etiwanda, a tiny community surrounded by orange and lemon orchards. To the south, vineyards stretched across the valley for miles and miles. These are all gone, and the place is now a big city.
