Important to note that any elk who allows tourists close enough to do this is the first recipient of the stupid award. It is common in Estes Park, CO. I once came face to face with a bighorn sheep on a sidewalk in Estes Park. I also took this photo from my car of an elk on a sidewalk.

We were in Estes Park about 15 years ago when our son was at CU Boulder. My wife was out for a morning walk and saw an elk that size with his harem. Don’t want to get between the bull and his girls!
