I visited Colloden with friends in 1985, and we discovered that people from two of our ancestral families had fought against each other at a particular spot there (the Stewarts of Appin v. the Munros).

A former coworker said he’d found a couple of ancestors had fought on opposite sides in the Battle of Quebec, both survived.
In my own lines I’ve found a number of close calls of various ancestors (a couple of near-drownings, and a bunch of making a getaway a step ahead of the law, that kind of thing). One couple in particular seem to have beamed down from space — no one’s ever come up with any ancestry for either one, on either side of the pond.
