The European Union is experiencing many of the same pains that any conglomeration of powers experiences when they are trying to achieve unity with disparate members retaining some degree of sovereignty. Take a look at our own history, understand the delicate balancing done by the founding fathers, note that it came apart in 1861, that we been striving ever since to come to balance on states rights. Even today the United States is riven by the issue of immigration, precisely the same matter that troubles and threatens sovereignty in Europe.
