Military aircraft don't belong at civilian airports, except maybe for emergency landings and air shows. Especially now during a war.

This is also a major issue with not declaring war. Neutral nations have no business hosting warplanes for one side or the other of an armed conflict.

Why don't they go to Mildenhall or Lakenheath, which are military bases and not all that far away?

That would be near impossible since many airports also serve as home for Air National Guard bases. Do you want the government to have to purchase land and build runways strictly for the ANG?
