I was not being tolerant, I was asking questions, which you apparently misunderstood. Anyone who knows me like Sunken Civ knows I too have wide ranging interests and many facts and also ideas. I also enjoy adding to them.
In fact since my mother owned a fabric store I developed an interest in rare and beautiful fabric which was why I was surprised I knew nothing about the items I asked about. I was very upset when after my mother died, my father threw out the entire contents of a file cabinet filled with clothes patterns she had kept after she closed the store in 1942. I was just sick when he told me what he had done.
A shame things of value are lost and then the ones who didn’t realize it find out later what was lost. True of music that didn’t make the transition from physical records to digital because they weren’t on the “top hits” list or books that no one understood to value because they weren’t bestsellers.
Funny anecdote from my library background. The new head of the university library where I worked came from Berkeley. He said that library had to decide to store thousands of books in a remote warehouse or discard them. They made a decision in 1964 to get rid of some entire categories “because they hadn’t been checked out in a long time and weren’t likely to ever be missed.”
Categories: women’s history and rights movement, astrology and occult practices such as witchcraft and the unknown.
They soon had to buy them again.
